BIAB stands for ‘Builder In A Bottle’: a flexible builder gel that strengthens and protects your natural nail, without extending it. The most requested treatment in our Amsterdam studio.

BIAB in one minute
BIAB is short for Builder In A Bottle: a builder gel applied with a brush straight from the bottle — just like gel polish, but thicker and considerably stronger. The term was coined by British brand The GelBottle Inc, which launched BIAB™ first; today ‘BIAB’ is used in almost every salon as a general name for this type of strengthening builder gel.
The gel is applied in a thin layer over your own nail, with slightly more product in the centre (the apex). That creates a strong yet flexible shield that bends with your natural nail instead of cracking. The result still looks like your own nail: BIAB can be worn natural, in a nude shade, or topped with gel colour, French or chrome.
In terms of strength, BIAB sits between gel polish and acrylic. It does not extend your nail (we use tips or extensions for that) — it protects your natural nail so it can grow out calmly without tearing or peeling.

Advice & prep
We check the condition of your nails, discuss length and shape, and care for the cuticles.

Preparation
The nail is lightly buffed, dehydrated and given a thin base coat for optimal adhesion.

Building the apex
We apply BIAB nail by nail with a gentle apex, curing each layer under the lamp.

Shape & finish
We refine the shape and finish it: natural, gel colour, French, chrome or nail art.

Aftercare
Cuticle oil plus advice to keep your set looking flawless for 3 to 5 weeks.

Frequently asked questions about BIAB
Is BIAB bad for your nails?
No. BIAB sits on top of your own nail and protects it. What matters is minimal filing and professional removal — we use an e-file and soak-off, never picking or prying.
How long does BIAB last?
On average 3 to 5 weeks. After 3 to 4 weeks we recommend an infill so the regrowth is filled in and the nail stays balanced.
What is the difference between BIAB and gel polish?
Gel polish is colour only and adds no structure. BIAB is a builder gel: thicker, stronger and reinforcing. Gel colour can simply be applied on top of BIAB.
Can BIAB make my nails longer?
BIAB is an overlay and does not add length. It can bridge a small free edge, and because your nails break less often they do get longer over time.
Does BIAB need removing every time?
No. As long as the set is intact we work with infills. For colour changes or after a longer period we remove the layer properly and rebuild.
Is BIAB suitable for weak nails?
Especially, yes — it's the main reason clients choose BIAB. The gel protects thin or peeling nails so they can grow out.
